Objective

Each hero belongs to one named shot. Make that shot enough times to start the hero’s challenge, then finish the challenge. A flashing hero hexagon means the first challenge is complete; a solid hexagon means the later two-ball battle is complete.

After earning a hero, repeat that hero’s shot until its two-ball battle begins. Win it and the hexagon turns solid. Make all six solid to prepare Battle for Earth.

  1. AdvanceRepeat one hero shot until its mode begins.
  2. EarnFinish the mode. That hero flashes in the center hexagon.
  3. CompleteComplete the same hero shot again and win the two-ball battle. The light turns solid.

Shots

Hawkeye lane

The far-left Hawkeye lane and nearby Captain America lane

The long outer-left lane sends the ball to the Loki ramp. Four makes start Hawkeye; seven more spell HAWKEYE.

How to try it: Hold the ball still on the right lower flipper. Aim through the open channel at the bottom of Hawkeye lane; the ball must pass the entrance switch and continue up the lane. If a weak shot rolls back down the same lane, let it return to a flipper before trying again.

Captain America lane

The left-side Hawkeye and Captain America lanes

The inner-left lane sends the ball to the top lanes and bumpers. Four makes start the mode; bumper hits finish it.

How to try it: Hold the ball still on the right lower flipper. Aim through the open channel at the bottom of Captain America lane; the ball must pass the entrance switch and continue up the lane. If a weak shot rolls back down the same lane, let it return to a flipper before trying again.

Thor bank

The four blue Thor standup targets on the left side of the installed playfield

Hit all four T-H-O-R standups three times. In Thor mode, hit the brightest sweeping target.

How to try it: Hold the ball still on the right lower flipper. Aim at the flat rectangular faces in Thor bank, one target at a time; do not aim at the gaps or the plastic above them. Expect the ball to rebound toward the middle after contact.

Hulk and lock

Knock down H-U-L-K three times. When green arrows flash, use the Black Widow ramp to reach the Hulk saucer.

How to try it: Hold the ball still on the left lower flipper. Aim through the open channel at the bottom of Hulk and lock; the ball must pass the entrance switch and continue up the lane. If a weak shot rolls back down the same lane, let it return to a flipper before trying again.

Black Widow ramp

The cross-playfield Black Widow ramp and Iron Man inner orbit

The cross-playfield ramp. Four makes start the mode; ten more spell BLACK WIDOW.

How to try it: Hold the ball still on the left lower flipper. Aim through the two posts at the bottom of Black Widow ramp and use a firm forehand so the ball climbs the ramp. If it starts up and rolls back, let it reach a flipper before shooting again.

Iron Man orbit

The Black Widow ramp and right inner Iron Man orbit

The right inner orbit beside the ramp. Four makes start the mode; seven more spell IRON MAN.

How to try it: Hold the ball still on the left lower flipper. Aim through the open channel at the bottom of Iron Man orbit; the ball must pass the entrance switch and continue up the lane. If a weak shot rolls back down the same lane, let it return to a flipper before trying again.

Ball one

Launch

Plunge firmly toward the three top lanes. One lane flashes for the skill shot; use the flipper buttons before launch to move the flashing choice. A short plunge drops toward the Loki lock and right flipper, but does not award a skill shot or a lit lock.

Advance hero progress on every completed trip.Use the easy outer-left Hawkeye lane, use the flipper buttons to move the L-O-K-I lane lights at the bottom, and keep the Tesseract moving.

A workable route

First game

Start with Hawkeye. His outer-left lane has a generous entrance, and a made shot can continue onto the Loki ramp. Meanwhile, use the flipper buttons to move the four L-O-K-I lane lights toward the lane the ball is about to enter.

  1. HawkeyeMake the far-left lane four times, then seven more to finish HAWKEYE.
  2. Loki locksComplete L-O-K-I at the bottom, then send three shots up the Hawkeye lane and into the right-side lock.
  3. TesseractTake cube spins when they are safe. Six separate hits spell C-O-S-M-I-C and start scoring.

One pattern, six shots

The six

Thor

Clear the four standups three times. Then hit the brightest target as the lit pattern sweeps across the bank.

Hawkeye

Four outer-left lanes start the mode. Seven more spell HAWKEYE. This is the friendliest first hero.

Captain America

Four inner-left lanes start the mode. Return to the lane and let the bumpers wear down the enemy bar.

Black Widow

Four cross-playfield ramps start the mode. Ten more ramp shots spell BLACK WIDOW.

Iron Man

Four right inner orbits start the mode. Seven more spell IRON MAN.

Progress survives. The untimed hero modes continue on later balls. After award, advancing that hero again starts a two-ball head-to-head battle. Follow the flashing shots on the playfield and the counter on the display.

Two different multiballs.Hulk begins at the green targets. Loki begins with the bottom lanes and three right-ramp locks.

Keep the routes separate

Multiballs

Complete the two lower S.H.I.E.L.D. targets, then hit the upper Nick Fury target during multiball. Its situational award is often add-a-ball and restarts the ball saver.

The play at the same time

Tesseract

Each hit that moves the cube adds one C-O-S-M-I-C letter; spin speed increases the Cosmic value. Six letters begin a 25-second round. Now every 15 spins earns the next letter while major shots pay the built value.

Start this during Hulk, Loki, a hero battle, or Battle for Earth. If time expires, letter and partial-spin progress return on the next Tesseract round. Complete C-O-S-M-I-C again, then shoot the flashing major arrow for the Super Jackpot.

The finish

Finales

Assault on the Helicarrier

Earn all six heroes so the center hexagon flashes, then shoot the strobing Loki lock. In this single-ball mode, make each hero shot twice, twelve shots total. Return to the Loki lock for the Super Jackpot. A drain ends the attempt.

Battle for Earth

Make all six heroes solid by winning their two-ball battles, then shoot the strobing Loki lock. Make each hero shot four times. Return to the lock for the Super Jackpot, then repeat the cycle while at least two balls remain. Tesseract can run with it.

Best priorities

Scoring

  1. Progress firstHero modes are permanent progress and the path to both finales.
  2. Play at the same time the cubeBring Tesseract into multiball so many balls can spin the cube and earn major-shot values.
  3. Protect the ballUse Nick Fury during multiball for a likely add-a-ball, not as a random single-ball detour.
  4. Prefer controlHawkeye is a safer first hero. Black Widow and Iron Man are narrow, repeat-heavy shots.

On default settings, the third C-O-S-M-I-C completion lights an extra ball at the Hulk saucer. S.H.I.E.L.D. can also light one. A lit extra ball still must be earned at the saucer.

This guide is for Avengers Pro, Stern 2012, cabinet table build v1.48 running ROM avs_170. It is not Avengers: Infinity Quest. Counts and awards can change with operator settings; trust the display when it disagrees.

Rules checked against Stern’s instruction card, Stern’s game listing, the detailed Pinball News Pro review, and the installed VPX/VBS files. The playfield image comes from the cabinet’s own PinUP recording because the local Mac renderer did not open this table.
